Summer is officially here! Seasonal heat means we need to make sure we’re properly hydrated. Let’s be clear: “Hydrated” does not mean guzzling a gallon of water a day. It means drinking an amount of water appropriate for your body weight (typically one ounce of water for every pound you weigh).
I grew up drinking bright red Gatorade after sporting events or after long hours gardening during hot, humid summers. As an adult, I looked at the ingredients of most sports drinks and realized how much unhealthy junk was listed: High fructose corn syrup, sucrose syrup, modified food starch, red 40, and glycerol ester. Yuck!
The bad stuff aside, electrolytes themselves are important to help our bodies function properly. The big three electrolytes are sodium, potassium, and magnesium. Among their benefits are:
- Balancing body fluids
- Regulating blood pressure
- Reducing muscle cramps
I hope this information helps you enjoy your summer even more. As always, if you find that you’re struggling with a chronic health issue that affects your quality of life, I offer Discovery Sessions to help support you.

This month’s remedies look a little different:
Introducing cell salts*
Cell salts are a group of twelve homeopathically prepared minerals and mineral salts that are easy for the body to absorb. They are called cell salts because they rebalance the functioning of the body at the cellular level and stimulate the body’s natural healing process.
Plus, cell salts can be used for a variety of symptoms like insomnia due to nervous tension, menstrual cramps, joint pain, healing fractures, and more. I like to make my own electrolyte drink with homeopathic cell salts (see recipe below).
My favorite combination of cell salts is Hyland’s Bioplasma, which includes all twelve of the essential electrolyte minerals in one bottle (super convenient!).

Homeopathy: Homeopathy is a 200-year-old holistic system of healing that uses natural substances to bring the body back into balance. Homeopathic remedies reset your internal healing mechanism and allow your body to restore balance from within.
Acute Remedies: For conditions that come on suddenly such as the flu, food poisoning, or motion sickness. The examples in this newsletter are readily available over-the-counter.
Constitutional Remedies: For chronic, long-standing symptoms that have lasted more than six months such as PMS, migraines, or endometriosis. A professional homeopath has the necessary training to act as a detective and select the best constitutional remedy for each person.
Food for Healing: Electrolytes

Homemade Homeopathic Electrolyte Drink
2 cups filtered water
6 Hyland’s Bioplasma cell salt tablets

In case you need a quick, easily available option, my favorite ready-made electrolyte powder is Trace Minerals Research Power Pak. I buy them on FullScript at a discount. Other brands I like are Ultima, LMNT, and Emergen-C.
